AHS Alumni Scholarship

The Abilene Public Schools Endowment Association is an incorporated non-profit investment organization for the development of private funds to enhance the learning opportunities to the young people of USD #435 - Abilene Public Schools.

AHS Athletic Scholarship

The Abilene High School Sthletic Scholarship recognizes the achievements of athletics, scholarship and positive contributions to the team, school, and community.

AHS Senior or Alumni Cowboy Statue Art/Design Scholarship

This scholarship is in recognition of the tremendous talent of AHS Alumni Mr. Jason Lahr and Mr. Donald Knauss in designing the AHS Cowboy Statue at the Abilene High School.

This scholarship will be awarded to someone seeking a career in art or design which can encompass fields such as engineering, architecture, and teaching.

Benji Sheldon Memorial Scholarship

The Benji Sheldon Scholarship was established in 2021 in her memory.  Benji Sheldon was a devoted employee of USD 435 for over 30 years.  She enjoyed following the many students that she had gotten to know (past and present) in the activities in which they were involved.  She also had numerous grandkids and great grandkids that attended or still are attending the Abilene schools.

Carl and Arloyene Humpert Alumni Scholarship

Carl and Arloyene Humpert grew to adulthood in Dickinson County.  They had a very successful farming venture in Nebraska and returned to this area to be close to family during retirement.  They had no children of their own, but believed in the importance of investing in the future of our youth.  They established this Humpert Scholarship to be awarded to Abilene High School graduates.

Carl and Arloyene Humpert Senior Scholarship

Carl and Arloyene Humpert grew to adulthood in Dickinson County.  They had a very successful farming venture in Nebraska and returned to this area to be close to family during retirement.  They had no children of their own, but believed in the importance of investing in the future of our youth.  They established this Humpert Scholarship to be awarded to Abilene High School graduates.

Dickinson County Realtors Scholarship

The Dickinson County Board of Realtors has established a $1,000 scholarship to be awarded to a graduating
senior of Abilene High School.

Don Meeker Scholarship

Don Meeker was born Sept. 25, 1939 in Abilene, the son of James Roy and Mabel Meeker.  He grew up in the Talmage area and attended local schools.  After graduation he attended Kansas State University.

Mr. Meeker was disabled in a farming accident in 1959.  He made his home in Abilene and worked for Memorial Hospital and United Way.  Mr. Meeker passed away in 2000 and his estate made a generous contribution to the Abilene Public Schools Endowment Association which made this scholarship possible.  Mr. Meeker was very interested and supportive of the community.  This scholarship continues his support by helping graduates of the community further their education.

Heroneme Family Alumni Scholarship

Chuck and Sandy Heroneme have been lifelong residents of Abilene, raising their three children in the Abilene School District.  Chuck was employed with the Abilene Post Office and was active in many community clubs.  He volunteered many years running the “chain gang” at the high school football games.   Sandy was a teacher in the Abilene school system for 28 yrs.  She taught both 1st and 4th grades.  Her love for teaching is evident in all of the lives she has touched.  After Chuck’s passing in 2011 she has chosen to establish this scholarship in the family name.

Karl Heins Glatt Alumni Scholarship

Karl Heins Glatt was employed by AT&T until his retirement.  He was the son of Oren & Harriett Glatt of Abilene.  This scholarship was established in memory of Karl Heins Glatt who was a graduate of Abilene High School and Washburn University to recognize an AHS Alumni who has demonstrated community service and declared a major or goal.  Preference will be given to vacational school applicants.

Karl Heins Glatt was employed by AT&T until his retirement.  He was the son of Oren & Harriett Glatt of Abilene.  This scholarship was established in memory of Karl Heins Glatt who was a graduate of Abilene High School and Washburn University to recognize an AHS Senior who has demonstrated community service and declared a major or goal.  Preference will be given to vacational school applicants.

Thayer Family Scholarship

The Thayer Family scholarship was established by Linda Thayer and Charles Thayer in memory of their parents Dr. Bruce and Neoma Thayer.  Linda and Charles graduated from Abilene High School and their education has served them well.  They want to recognize an AHS graduating student who demonstrates her/his ability to think and write about their educational and career goals.
